For more than 30 years, Alan Cole has been the leader of the Trotters.
Saturday mornings will find Alan at the meeting place in the Station carpark on Rohini Street, ready to greet new members, advise on the course, keep the times and encourage all-comers. Apart from being one of our best runners in the history of the Trotters, since retiring from running competitively through knee injury, Alan has kept these records, updated the times and managed their preparation.
Alan turns up Saturday mornings in all sorts of inclement weather (when most of the Trotters themselves have stayed in bed). In his own time, he manages our banking and finances, drinks roster, special events, anniversaries, Christmas functions, ordering and buying the T-shirts and caps as well as dealing with enquiries, maps and overseas trips.
In addition, he is the main conduit for the general support and pastoral care of Trotters - through their injuries, aches and pains, race preparation, personal fitness challenges and sickness.
He has done this in his own warm and unassuming style, and we all owe him a great debt of gratitude. Legend.
Peter Bromley was a regular runner with the Turramurra Trotters in the 1980s and 1990s.
Like many Dads, Peter who wasn't a bad runner himself, brought along young son Nicholas in 1995.
We knew then that great achievements on the track lay before him.
Did he pick up any tips from the erudite and charismatic, good-looking and oh-so-suave Turramurra Trotters !
In 2008, Nicholas was represented Australia in the Czech Republic at the IAAF Grand Prix, in the 800m.
Great stuff Nicholas !
You are indeed a credit to yourelf, your family and the Trotters !
These photographs of several enthusiastic Turramurra Trotters were taken on Saturday 19th Aptil 2008, and may show amongst others :- .... Roger Mail, Tim Roberts, Brian Matthews, Bob Heiler, Pam Rosser, Tim Macoun, Geoff Russell, Denise Macoun, Alex Rosser, Les Bryce, Alison Bodinar, Deirdre Fountain, Jan Trembath, Richard Bamaan, Alex Siwtschuk, Ian Holmes, Julie Madden, Kerrie Curran, Bruce Donnelley, Abigail Turney, Jodie Playford, Margaret Dobbins, Marie Hedley, Suzie Bryce, Peter Kaleski, Ron Brew, Chris Chilton, Peter Giddins, Andrew Burgess, Ron Moorhead, Mike Kaars, Sas Douglas, Richard Clough, Peter Tang, Ross Trembath, John Snelson and Alan Cole.
Here's a couple of shots of our resident bikie, Richard Clough who used to be a good runner. Richard is a long-standing Member of the Trotters, a great wit and a favourite with everyone.
Sadly, metamorphosis has set in, and he started to go for walkies and chasing bikes; he liked it so much he took on some other strange habits.
Here's a picture of him (a) returning from his Saturday outing and (b) taking some refreshment.
Here they are, running down Rohini Street in 1996, posing for the cameras, drowning in the clap of the crowd, the honk of the horse linament and lure of the line, the hard core of the Turramurra Trotters in all their (previous) splendour.
Pictured here are from Left to Right :-
Peter Welch, Brian Hewson, John Gilpin, David Hepworth, Denis Fountain, Alan Cole, Ian Holmes, John Snelson, Bruce Grime and Dave Evans.
Australia Day, 2008 ... and our dedicated spruiker was on duty, sweeping out the Trotters' Club House, which boasts excellent facilities which include the members' pavilion, the press gallery and an air-conditioned bar, where members can relax in a friendly atmosphere and solve the problems of the world.
The Club House is ideally situated with easy access to the carpark and public transport - Turramurra Station is a short walk and the bus stops right outside the front door.
Well done Sas Douglas - a worthy, long-standing Member of the Turramurra Trotters for more than 25 years, and very clean.
Here are some likely lads.
This photoraph of Richard Bamann, Peter Nuttall and Ian Holmes was taken by Sas Douglas.
Peter Welch is in the background.
The photograph was taken on the occasion of the "30th Year of the Turramurra Trotters Celebrations".
Lena Bamann, who supported the Trotters on many a fun run with words of encouragement, as well as being a fine athlete herself, baked a cake.
Apart from being a nice cake and gesture, it came complete with decorations and edible, iced sculptures of some Trotters !
You can see here, the detail work that has gone into this cake ... down to the detail of the time recorder with THE BOOK, and the dog.
Of course, we scoffed the lot. Photograph supplied by Sas Douglas.
Left to Right :
Mike Kaars, Denise Macoun, Tim Macoun, Julia Kaars, Bruce Magnusson, Margaret Marshall, Ian Holmes, Mai Douglas, Deirdre Fountain, Denis Fountain ... and seated ... Ivy Tang and John Marshall.
Photograph supplied by Alan Cole.
Here is Alan Cole reading out the names of those in attandance at the 30 Years Celebration of the Turramurra Trotters. Little did he know that his dedication had been manifested in cake.
Also in the picture, is Peter Kaleski, one of the original Trotters, all those years ago.
Photograph supplied by Sas Douglas.
Many people turned up, current and past Trotters, to celebrate 30 years of the Turramurra Trotters. This is the identification parade as best we can present ....

This photoraph of Peter Giddins, Andrew Burgess and Sandy Logie was taken at the 30 Years "Diamond Anniversary" in 2004.
In the background, is of course Bruce Magnusson.
Sas Douglas supplied the photograph.
Here's our timekeeper, handicapper, starter and general organiser.
This photograph of Alan Cole was taken by John Marshall, in 2004, and shows him in his normal position on a Saturday morning about 7-30 am, reading the times as he has done for the last 30 years.
Now there's dedication.
The Trotters would not be the same without Les Bryce. He's arguably one of the best recruiters we have seen over the years, and an incorrigible reader of fascinating and comprehensive announcements on a Saturday morning.
This photograph of Les was taken by John Marshall, in 2004, and shows him celebrating the delivery of another great soliloquy, soaking up the crowd's acclamation and showing us what he thinks of the Telstra shareprice.
Back in 1974, Pete was one of the original three Trotters, along with Peter Wicks and Pat Burke.
Sad really, to think that Pete has been turning up here for 35 years. What a hero !
This photograph of Peter, perhaps thinking back on last night's Cabernet Sauvignon, was taken by John Marshall
in 2004. On this occasion of the 30th anniversary, it shows Peter sporting his 1994, 20th Anniversary's T-Shirt livery ... now a collectors' item of sartorial elegance.
We have had many delightful, husband and wife teams passing through the Turramurra Trotters ... coming to mind (outside those currently active) are Mike & Carmen Bingham, Alan & April Power, Peter & Sue Cave .... yes, sure, there are lots more.
However, many senior Trotters will remember how Richard his wife Lena were outstanding in their enthusiasm and support for other Trotters as they participated in fun-runs, half marathons and marathons in the heady days of the early 1980s.
These are special people - be nice to them - Lena makes our Anniversary cakes and they are both expert boxers !
This photograph of Richard was taken by John Marshall in 2005.
Margaret Marshall in full flight - pounding down the carpark.
Margaret is our longest running female Turramurra Trotter. It is not gentlemanly to ask how long she has been a Trottette, however this will be revealed when we finally load the earliest Year Book in which her name appears.
This photograph of Margaret was taken by her support crew, John Marshall in 2004 - from behind the Club House.
John & Margaret must be our greatest, both-still-running "husband and wife team".
... and, talk of the devil, here is John Marshall, sometime photographer.
This photograph of John was possibly taken by himself, in this rather dashing, scarlet T-shirt.
More likely, it was snapped by his personal trainer, Margaret in 2005.
This is Bob Germaine - tough, uncompromising, strong - you won't be surprised to learn that his daughter is a superb, seasoned, hard competitor - and a world-class iron - woman and surfing athlete.
No doubt she inherited these qualities from her Dad.
Bob Germaine - an icon of the marque - a fine example of the elan and gravitas of the Turramurra Trotters - makes mincemeat of the hills and roundabouts every Saturday morning.
.... Nicole Germaine - just like her Dad, - tough, uncompromising, strong. She competed at the Australian Long Course Triathlon Championships - Jervis Bay, on Sunday 24th February 2008 ... just a 2km swim, 83km bike ride - and a 20km run. She is the Australian Long Course Champion Ironman !
Nicole is competing in the Australian Ironman Triathlon in Port Macquarie on 6th April 2008 .... Go Nicole - a product of the Turramurra Trotters Sports Academy, and an exceptional Turramurra Trottette from the age of 8.
Thanks to Nathan Germaine and Turramurra Cyclery for this photograph.
All the Turramurra Trotters wish her good luck and all the best in Port Macquarie !
George Best, that wonderful Irish footballer and playboy once said
"I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered"
.... well, meet some of the Turramurra Trotter Trenchermen ... some of these Trotters are having a good time ..... the rest of them .... you work that out for yourselves. Float the rat over the images, and the names are revealed ! (Photographs courtesy Alex Rosser).
