From here you can navigate to learn who the original Turramurra Trotters were, and how this wonderful informal institution started.
The Full Story of the Turramurra Trotters is given in some detail, and guess what ... some of the original runners still turn up here every week, 32 years after their first runs around this course. So we know who to blame don't we !
The story contains references to some of the 1000 or so men and women, boys and girls ... and yes, there are a few dogs (ahem ... no disrespect meant to either Alex Rosser's dog "Aztec" or "ticky" - or his next dog, or Sas Douglas's dog, assorted Currans' dogs, the Boakes hound or John's dog "Banjo" Snelson, run over as the Trotters ran by and cared for by Cliff Carpenter) ... who have run at some time with this remarkable institution.
A fine ambassador for both the Turramurra Trotters and the Sydney Striders over the years has been Alf Field. No doubt sporting the green livery of either or both institutions, Alf has spread his fame into every continent, running some 80 or so (at the last count) marathons in the last 25 years. I dunno ... Alf - get a life !
The history of the Trotters has been compiled with the help at this stage of Peter Welch, Cliff Carpenter, Alan Cole, Bob Sully, Mike Kaars, Nick Heath, Ian Holmes and articularly Dave Evans and John Gilpin who also contributed the sexist comments which most of us agreed with (on a ... er, how do I put this, "a rather gorgeous monthly item", nod-nod, nudge-nudge, wink-wink say no more) that have now been deleted. Jo Featherston contributed material for the slothful walkers. Richard Clough has contributed two thirds of the square root of sod all about the tyred cyclists.
