The Stunning Turramurra Trotters Course

The course follows an out-and-back route. The idea is that new runners and indeed the older ones, gradually build up in preparation for the City to Surf which takes place in August. The City to Surf is about 14 kilometres, so the Trotters build up to this distance over 6 week periods, starting on the first Saturday in January. From here you can navigate to information regarding

  1. The 6.5km Course
  2. The 8.6km Course
  3. The 10.2km Course
  4. The 12.0km Course
  5. The 14.0km Course
  6. The 15.1km Course

The 6 part course is (or has been from time to time) studded with wonderful landmarks such as

  • the Turramurra Brothel on Rohini Street in the 1980s which reappeared magically next to the service station on the corner of Turramurra Avenue on the Pacific Higjhway in 2003, passed innocently by the Trotters every Saturday morning.
  • further on the course, the Trotters live the joy of crossing Lover's Jump Creek
  • experience the euphoria of passing the Hornsby Water Clock which never seems to be working and is often bubbling away in pink or green bubbles
  • and share the heaven of trotting past Dave Evans after a Friday night on the Vindaloo.

There is a 7th course, which commenced as a route for walkers. It has metamorphosed into an alternatrive, hybrid course; this is the catchweight division. This course is followed by

  • genuine, technically competent speed walkers;
  • those who sort of "run a bit" and "walk a bit";
  • some who think they are walking but who would surely be red-carded on entry into the stadium;
  • walkers pulled by dogs;
  • wind-assisted walkers
  • pole assisted nordic walkers;
  • anyone who wants to conceal how far they actually travelled and the route;
  • others whose gait varies from an ambulant lurch to a stampede over the last 50 metres.

Accordingly, there is little value in trying to compare the times achieved, as the distances travelled is uncertain and the integrity of the method of propulsion is questionable.
